The Bulgarian Consulate General in Los Angeles presents a special chamber music concert in celebration of Bulgaria’s National Liberation Day — A Musical Journey Through Bulgaria: Classical & Beyond

The Consul General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles, Mr. Boyko Hristov, his spouse, Mrs. Sylvia Hristova, and actor/singer/producer Mrs. Irina Maleeva, in collaboration with internationally renowned musicians, are proud to host an evening of chamber music featuring a string quartet, piano, and flute, that showcases classical Bulgarian music in honor of Bulgaria’s National Day. The tuneful affair is set to take place on Friday, March 21 at the historic Mormon Los Angeles California Temple in Westwood.

Similar to artistic explorations of their 19th-century European colleagues Dvořák, Smetana, and Grieg in establishing a distinctive national (as in, homegrown) harmonic style, Bulgarian composers from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries have created signature musical expressions which draw upon folklore and contemporary Western composition techniques. Expect the forthcoming West LA live performance to underscore the aformentioned: literally, figuratively, and spiritually.

The upcoming event highlights the works of world-renowned Bulgarian composers, including Pancho Vladigerov and his iconic Bulgarian Rhapsody Vardar, Lyubomir Pipkov, Marin Goleminov, Petko Staynov, and contemporary artists Milen Kirov and Penka Kouneva.
